The Emigration Museum in Oberalben

Many visitors have already found their way to the Emigration Museum in Oberalben. The guest book shows that they also come from abroad, even from overseas.
The aim of the museum concept is to use exhibits and display boards to trace the journey of those wishing to emigrate, from obtaining official permission to crossing the ocean, and finally arriving and settling in their chosen country.
Most emigrants were drawn to North America. The phenomenon of emigration spans a period of around 300 years. The museum aims to explore a wide range of aspects, with a particular focus on human destinies.

The museum receives expert advice from historians and museologists Dr. Ulrich Wagner and Stefan Knobloch, who work at the Historical Museum in Bremerhaven, as well as from Roland Paul from the Institute for Palatinate History and Folklore in Kaiserslautern.
A cafeteria attached to the museum offers guests refreshments, and if you order in advance, you can also enjoy the now famous “Auswannererknepp” with bacon sauce and cabbage.
As the museum is run by volunteers, it is only open on the first and third Sunday of each month from 2pm to 5pm.

However, by appointment, you can also visit the Oberalben Emigration Museum on other days of the week.
