Mithras Monument

Mithrasdenkmal

You can follow in the footsteps of the Romans on a hike through the Pfeffelbach Valley near the municipality of Reichweiler. The Persian-Roman god of light, Mithras, was once worshipped in a temple here. A relief depicting the god in the center has been preserved from the place of worship. The relief depicts the god Mithras killing a bull. Since the 19th century, the relief has been surrounded by a stone protective structure that is intended to represent the temple complex.

The monument is located on the Fritz Wunderlich cycling and hiking trail between Kusel and Freisen, near the pond complex in Schwarzerden, about 100 meters from the Fritz Wunderlich cycling and hiking trail.

The monument is accessible all year round and free of charge.
Please note that there is no winter maintenance service on site during the winter months.
